Open source 3D RPG updates

Monday, September 28th, 2009

There has been some activity in the most prominent free (as in freedom) software 3D role-playing games DungeonHack, jClassicRPG and Radakan.
DungeonHack (DH) 0.10 has been released in form of win&lin 32bit biaries and a few commits later I was able to compile the game on my 64bit Arch Linux machine. It is the first release of DH that does not rely on non-free libraries.

NAEV 0.4.0 has been released.

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

This release is statically linked against libvorbis so there should be no old libvorbis issues. It contains some new features like options menu to configure most of the important ingame options and a bunch of bug fixes. We are aware that used RAM has increased a lot since 0.3.9, but so have features and niceness. However we will try to bring back down the RAM usage especially since we will be doing a port for the openpandora. Enjoy!

Wesnoth 1.6.5: Maintenance Release

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

Wesnoth 1.6.5 has been released. This is a bugfix release for the stable 1.6 branch. Unless grave security bugs occur this is likely to be the last 1.6.x release. Included in this release are many translation updates and some bug fixes. Feel free to celebrate the new release with us in this forum thread.
As with the last releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache…
At the moment the Windows, the MacOSX as well as the Debian, Archlinux and Gentoo packages are ready. You can find them at the download page. Once the others are done you can find them at the download page, too. If you find a bug, please report it.

Wesnoth 1.7.5: Development Release

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

A new Development release is ready. This is the sixth release in the 1.7.x tree. The reason for this release are some problems with the drakes that were introduced in 1.7.4. This was not the only thing changed, so some more stuff is listed in this forum thread.

CrossOver Games 8.0, Now With Zombie-Plague Protection

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

It’s been a while since CodeWeavers updated CrossOver Games and today’s release of version 8.0 is a doozy. If you’re not familiar with CrossOver Games 8.0, it’s a great option for anyone who want to run their Windows-based games on an Intel OS X Mac or Linux PC. It supports hot games like World of Warcraft, Call of Duty 2, Grand Theft Auto2, and a whole lot more.

Open Source Karaoke Game Hits the Right Notes

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Though Performous is a really fun open source karaoke game, I’ll spare you the sound bite of me singing along with my favorite tune (trust me, you don’t want to hear). Instead, you’ll want to go download this cool cross-platform app and spend the day crooning into your hairbrush and pretending you’re Elvis.

Performous isn’t just an app that displays song lyrics, it’s actually a teaching tool that can help you improve your singing voice. It helps correct your pitch (even in very noisy environments), displays musical notes onscreen as you warble, and awards you performance points for hitting all the right notes (octaves don’t count).
