Fragging Free is a Doom3:ROE single-player modification

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

FF has a precise objective: to bring the classic gameplay to the maximum.
We’ve found D3 gameplay good, but it was too slow and static if compared to older id games.
We worked hard to create something better and now we have a really fast and fun gameplay with crazy fights and much more challenging enemies.

In Fragging Free you’ll find lots of action, lots of monsters, lots of power-ups and a well-balanced gameplay that will push your skills to their limit.
“Free” is the word that summarise the essence of this mod: no more limitations (instant weapon change, high walk speed and ut-style dodge abilities, no falling damage, no need to hold a key to run, …), no objectives to follow, no stupid puzzles to do… just focus on fighting and have fun.
If you love Doom, Quake, Unreal, Serious Sam, Painkiller you know what we are talking about.

MAIN FEATURES:
- Fast gameplay: instant weapon change, high walk speed and ut-style dodge abilities.
- 10+ big maps filled with adrenalinic fights, lots of secrets and many outdoor sections.
- 18 weapons: we added what was missing do D3 and adapted the old ones to fit the new gameplay.
- 15 weapon powerups.
- Possess demons: fight as a demon in 3rd-Person Perspective…every monster has his own abilities and unique gameplay!
- Bullet time mode allows to gain health and move 2x faster. It can be recharged by collecting demons’ souls or obtaining new medals.
- New/reworked enemies with new AI and attacks.
- Friend marines with advanced AI: they can choose different weapons according to the situation, they can talk and cooperate.
- Custom Sound Track.
- Drive a vehicle.
- Medals for special kills and map statistics.

Wesnoth 1.5.4: Development Release

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

A new Development release is ready. This is the fifth release in the 1.5.x tree. esr was busy fixing bug and since I am too lazy for listing them all in here, better have a look at the forum thread which describes the most important changes. As with the last releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache…
At the moment no binaries are ready. Once they are done you can find them at the download page. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, report it.

Wesnoth 1.4.5: Maintenance Release

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Wesnoth 1.4.5 has been released. This is a bugfix release for the stable 1.4.x branch. In this release several smaller bugs were fixed and many translations were updated. To celebrate the release and comment on it, have a look at this forum thread. There are still two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice (only translation updates this time) and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is not much more to read either…
At the moment the Debian, Gentoo, Mac OSX and OpenSolaris binaries are ready. Once the others are done you can find them at the download page. We hope there are no bugs left, but if you find any, report them.

America’s Army Returning To Linux?

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Do you remember the days when we had America’s Army for Linux? The first-person shooter game sponsored by the US government and uses Epic’s Unreal Engine while being distributed freely? Well, it could come back to Linux!

There were Linux server and client versions of America’s Army up through v2.5 Direct Action. At that point, however, Ryan Gordon had abandoned his AA client porting work to Linux and Mac OS X. This decision was made as the US government had stopped paying him to do the porting work. Since then, all has been silent of America’s Army game-play on Linux.
