Linux gamers: We need your help!

We’ve written about games for Linux many times over the years. Now we want to do something different. We hope to sponsor a Linux game tournament, but we need your input before we start nailing down the details. Rather than make an ill-informed, arbitrary decision on what game to use in the tournament, we want to get your opinions.

Alien Arena 2008 7.10 Released

Version 7.10 of Alien Arena 2008 has been released! Notice the revision change…this is because what initially was expected to be a quick patch turned out to be much, much more. Five revamped maps, two brand new maps, major renderer changes, new gameplay features, and important bugfixes abound in what may just well be the most signifigant milestone in the long history of this game. SuperTuxKart version 0.5 released

Version 0.5 of SuperTuxKart has been released. It offers 6 new and improved tracks, a new game mode (‘Follow the Leader’), new Grand Prix, some new music, and translations into German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and Swedish. The new tracks and game modes need to be unlocked: you have to fulfill a challenge in order to use them. If all challenges are done, a preview of the upcoming skidding support can be tested. Binaries for Linux, Macs, and Windows as well as source packages can be found on our download page. We hope you enjoy this release!

Urban Terror FPS is as realistic as today’s headlines

Over the past two years, I’ve reviewed free software first-person shooters including Tremulous, Alien Arena, and Nexuiz — all top-notch games. Now we can add Urban Terror to that list. While the first three sport other-worldly, sci-fi-style opponents, Urban Terror goes for realistic opponents — as realistic as today’s headlines. You’re fighting terrorists in Algiers and other locations around the globe, and you’re using realistic weaponry to do it.

Postal 2 Multi-Player Released For Free

While Ryan Gordon has yet to release Unreal Tournament 3 for Linux (likely due to Steam / Valve’s Source Engine Coming To Linux), he has today released new versions of Postal 2 for Linux and Mac OS X. In celebration of the Postal movie being released, Running With Scissors (the company behind Postal) has permitted the release of a free multi-player edition of this popular game…
