AstroMenace 1.2 - Real Gaming in Linux

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

While changing to a great OS like Ubuntu , I had to make some sacrifices , one of them being : less gaming. I’m not seeing I ended my gamer ” career” , buy i start to look for smaller web games , or testing the big LINUX games that everybody was talking about. ( Tremoulos,Quake Wars,Nexuiz,Battle For Wesnoth).

But until recently my gaming experience was not fulfilled. The graphics was poor, the sounds were not even interesting and overall the games sucked big time.

Recently I came across this jewel , that nobody seems to talk about. AstroMenace = the first true Linux Game.

Read on for the full release statement.

The Widelands Development Team is proud to announce the immediate
availability of build-12 of Widelands. Widelands is a Free, cross-platform
strategy game in which players control the fate of a small tribe that can
grow into a big empire, in a style of play that is unique in the open source
world.
Please visit our homepage, http://www.widelands.org/ , to learn more.

Some of the highlights of build-12 are:
- fully working multiplayer games
- improved animations and graphics

As usual, there have been many more improvements to the usability and
performance, as well as numerous gameplay improvements and bugfixes.

Widelands uses SDL as graphics and input library and is currently available

Wesnoth 1.4.1: Maintenance Release

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Wesnoth 1.4.1 has been released. This is a bugfix release for the stable 1.4 branch. It mainly fixes smaller problems and features a rewritten multiplayer server to improve the servers speed while using less resources. Beside this the multiplayer lobby was sped up, spelling mistakes were fixed and many translations were updated. To celebrate the release and comment on it, post in this forum thread. As with the last development series, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache…
At the moment only the Gentoo, OpenSolaris and OpenSuse binaries are ready. Once the others are done you can find them at the download page. We hope there are no bugs left, but if you find any, report them.
