Atomic Tanks 2.9 ready for download!
The latest release of Atomic Tanks (version 2.9) is now ready for
download. This release brings about some important changes, and it
is recommended that all Atanks players upgrade to the latest version.
What’s so special about this version? Well, there are a handful of
bug fixes and a bunch of new features. And here they are…
Bug fixes:
1. Fixed spelling error in .desktop file. Thanks to Keilaron
for pointing out this flaw.
2. Removed old weapons.h file from the code, as it is no longer used.
3. Avoided memory error when moving the configuration file.
4. Added new command line option, “–noconfig”, which loads all
of the players, but none of the game’s settings. This is
to help users recover from bad configs without manually erasing
or editing the config file.
5. Added new Land Slide option called “Tank Only”. This causes
tanks to fall (affected by gravity), but dirt hovers. Addresses
outstanding Debian bug #462455.
6. The game tries to recover from graphic settings which caused
crashes before.
7. Computer controlled tanks no longer shoot at Steel walls, which
made them pretty useless.
8. AI controlled tanks no longer adjust power for items, which
do not require aiming, such as lasers and teleports.
New Features:
1. Atanks now has a French translation for the menu system and for
the gloats, revenge and suicide texts. Thanks to Olivier for
providing the translations.
2. Added command line option, “-c”, which lets the user specify
which configuration file to use. Should help when porting.
3. If no tanks are shooting, the naturals (meteors, lightning) are
paused. This prevents everything being wiped out while you’re
away from the keyboard. It also prevents people from buying a
lot of armour and parachutes and waiting for everyone else to die.
4. Added new Physics option called Violent Death. This causes some
tanks to blow up very violently.
5. Added new weapon called Armour Piercing. This is a weapon with
a small explosion, but fairly powerful damage.
6. Added text to buying screen to indicate there are more items
beyond the first page.
7. Re-wrote the AI aiming code. The computer now uses a much more
simple method of aiming, which should take a lot less CPU and
avoid shooting at Steel walls.
8. Added dirt balls that fall from the sky, like meteors. This
can be activated from the Weather menu.
9. Removed the old lasers-from-the-sky option and added a new
satellite that flies over the battle field and takes shots at
the ground and tanks. Added files satellite.cc and satellite.h
to the source code.
